We’re delighted to be hosting this special event at our Downend studio on Saturday 22nd November 2025 from 10am until 3pm (approx). It’s the perfect chance to step in front of the camera for relaxed, natural portraits – whether you come as a family, couple, friend group or on your own. Our studio doors will be wide open, and we can’t wait to capture you at your best. Pets are also welcome to attend as they’re part of the family. Read on for all the details.

Our Portrait Open Day is the perfect chance to gather the family and get a professional photo taken – ready in time for Christmas. Whether it’s parents and kids, grandparents, couples, a friend group or the whole family including the family dog tagging along, we welcome groups of up to 8 people into our studio for a fun, relaxed mini photoshoot at our portrait open day. Each session lasts up to 10 minutes, approximately, giving us time to capture a few different poses of everyone together. It’s quick, easy and enjoyable – ideal for those who want beautiful family photos without committing to a full portrait session.

It’s an open day you can just drop by our studio: West 70 Photography Studio, 9 Cleeve Wood Road, Downend, Bristol, BS16 2SF between 10am til 3pm (approx) on Saturday 22nd November 2025. It’s a great opportunity to tick “family photos” off the festive to-do list, and the images make brilliant Christmas gifts too. We’ve scheduled the portrait open day so you’ll have the photos with plenty of time before Christmas. These vouchers are a brilliant option for Christmas presents or future photoshoots, with exclusive open day pricing. Vouchers can only be purchased in person during the open day event. They are valid for one year from the date of purchase. The All-Important Info

• Family Time: Families, couples, friends – and even the dog – are all welcome. Up to 8 people per session.
• Quick & Easy: Each mini photoshoot session lasts around 10 minutes, giving us time for a selection of natural, relaxed poses.
• No Appointment Needed: For this special open day you don’t need an appointment, just call in!
• Your Own Space: Each photoshoot takes place in our private studio with our white ‘infinity cove’ backdrop, giving you the space to relax.
• Strike a Pose: Arrive ready to be photographed. Quick accessories (or festive hats) are fine, but full outfit changes aren’t possible during your mini session.
• Theme free: Your shoot is on our white backdrop with no set theming / props etc, so you can go festive if you fancy or keep it simple and come as you are.
• Christmas Ready: You’ll receive your images with plenty of time to use them as Christmas gifts.
• Groups Welcome: You can come by on your own, as a couple, or as a larger group of friends / family (up to 8 people total per group).
• No Pressure: We have two package options available to pick from (see full pricing above) – we can advise you, but it’ll always be your choice with no pressure.
• Keep an Eye on Your Inbox: Your online gallery link will arrive within approximately 10 days of the event, well before Christmas.
• Return Customer Discount: Visited us before (portraits, weddings etc)? You’ll be entitled to a special returning customer discount!
• Gift Voucher Sale: We’ll also have a one-day gift voucher sale available in the studio during the Portrait Open Day.
• All Weather & Indoor Event: Our open day event will go ahead no matter the weather, as it takes place fully indoors in our beautiful studio.
• Shoes Off: During your photoshoot everyone being photographed will need to remove their shoes, to help keep our white backdrop tidy.
• Card Payments Only: We kindly ask that all payments are made by card as we do not accept cash.

How Does It Work?

Simply come along to our Portrait Open Day any time between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 22nd November 2025. There’s no need to book in advance – just drop in with your family, partner or friends (up to 8 people per group). If we’re already photographing another customer, there may be a short wait, but sessions are kept to around 10 minutes so things move along without delay. When it’s your turn, you’ll have the studio space to yourselves, with our infinity cove backdrop set up and ready to go. We’ll capture a selection of relaxed, natural poses of you all together – simple, fun and easy.

You’ll be shown the two package options available (our Viewing Package at £35 or our Everything Package at £99 – see full pricing above). Staff are there to help and not upsell and they’ll happily guide you through the options. You pay for the photoshoot at the end of the mini appointment (card only please – we do not accept cash) so if you’re not sure yet, don’t worry. You can see how the photoshoot goes and you can decide at the end of the mini session.

Each appointment is limited to 10 minutes. Please arrive ‘photo ready’ as changing outfits on site is not possible during the open day sessions (Christmas hats etc are fine, but please no full outfit changes). Shoes will need to be removed when on the white backdrop being photographed (to help keep it tidy). We’ll take as many photos as we’re able during the appointment. If it’s all going well (and everyone in your party is feeling cooperative!) we should have plenty of time to take a variety of photos for you.

We do strictly stick to the 10-minute photoshoot timeframe, to keep it fair for everyone, so if any one in your group isn’t cooperating at the time of your appointment (we’re looking at you, babies, toddlers, teens…), you’re welcome to pop back later in the day to keep things moving along, if needed. Disabled access is available, on request and our studio is mostly on one level.

We’ll take your contact information during the photoshoot, so we can send you the photos to view afterwards. The photos are not ready to view instantly, they will be ready within approximately 7 days of the event. Once your photos are ready we will email you a private gallery link. We will provide as many photos as possible, but the final number can vary based upon each photoshoot and the cooperation of the guests being photographed. The pricing option you choose determines how your photos are delivered to you and the number of images you’ll receive. This gallery link will be emailed to you at the email address provided during the appointment. Please check your spam folder for our messages as they sometimes end up there. We will post on social media once the galleries are ready.

We’ve scheduled this open day so you’ll have your finished photos ready well before Christmas – perfect for gifts, cards or simply updating your family album. This is not a Christmas themed photoshoot however, all photos are taken on our white backdrop with no theming. You’re welcome to arrive dressed up in festive clothes, if you’d like, but this isn’t required.

Returning customers will get a special on-the-day discount – returning customers are classified as former wedding photography couples and studio portrait customers (including those who have visited us for past open days).

The Finer Details

Appointments are offered on a first come, first served basis. We have a waiting area where you’re welcome to wait with your group. During busier times we may have to limit the number of guests in the waiting area, to allow space for everyone to enter and exit the studio safely.

Dogs / pets are welcome to attend as part of the family photographs, but all animals (and children!) are the responsibility of their owner and you may be asked to wait outside if causing a disturbance to other visitors. Dog breeds listed on the Dangerous Dogs Act are not permitted, for the safety and wellbeing of all visitors.

Each mini appointment will have access to our private enclosed studio space for up to 10 minutes. Please arrive at the open day ready to be photographed. Any time spent getting ready to be photographed will count toward your total appointment time. Appointments may be shorter than the full ten minutes. If you would like a full photoshoot experience lasting up to an hour, you can book an appointment online for a standard photoshoot (pricing differs from our open day fees).

We can accommodate a total of 8 guests during the portrait open day. During a standard photoshoot (which can be booked online here) we are able to accommodate up to 14 guests in total, but due to the time-limitation and the setup of the studio for our portrait open day we have limited the number to eight people total. Dogs/pets are included in total guest numbers.

Our studio is spacious, with parking for large prams available on a first come, first serve basis. During busier periods prams may need to be left at the shopfront for safety and accessibility. For further general information about our studio and our photoshoots visit our FAQ.

If it gets very busy at the open day, we have a wait-list which will be strictly followed and names will be added on a first come, first served basis. You must be there in person to add your name to the wait-list. If you miss when your appointment is called, your place will be skipped and you will need to join at the back of the queue. Please be aware you may have to wait for your appointment, but we anticipate wait times to be minimal (based on past events). Opening hours are approximate and may be extended or amended. We will honour all appointments that arrive before 3pm. Payment by card only please. We do not accept cash.

Our open day events are all indoors in our professional photography studio – the event will go ahead on the advertised date no matter the weather.

Gift voucher sale: Exclusive one-day gift voucher offers will be available to purchase in the studio during the Portrait Open Day. Vouchers are valid for one year and the exclusive discounted pricing is only available in store during the Portrait Open Day. Vouchers are available to purchase online but will not be the special one day sale price.
